The Power To Change How We Feel Through Dressing

Working with Zoe on her wardrobe was such a great reminder for exactly 'how' and 'why' my wardrobe consultancy The Simple Pieces even exists. Fashion is fashion - yes gorgeous, superlative, superficial and not a necessity to life, we will not cease to exist as humans without fashion and style. Yet, our individuality may do, a lot of people will baulk at the idea that this is an 'important' part of life but my goodness it is, and the growth of the subject and area of Psychology of Fashion is a testament to that.
Personally, I've been on a journey of body image, weight and shape changes, perception of self and in evolution of style and it is in this personal journey that I initially realised this enormous gap in the market, and the need for a provider to serve it. After intense work, personal study, and years of experience, TSP was born.
Let's face it, on the most drab of days (and yes, *everyone* has them), all you want to reach for is your comfiest oldest sloggies, most likely due to a sense of comfort, nostalgia and ease. There's nothing wrong with this at all , but if we can change one thing, we can change our mindset. Clothes are sensual and give us a sense of belonging, of safety and security, yes, but they can also give us confidence. If you normally grab your holey, ten year old falling apart comfies, try a simple tweak of teaming your sweatshirt with trousers or your leggings with a shirt, or swapping your slippers for shoes and throw a jacket over the top, maybe even put on your favourite jewellery and a killer pair of sunglasses - I promise you'll start to feel better.
Maybe your pre-baby wardrobe formula isn't working anymore, maybe the jeans you once loved now fit differently or feel outdated, maybe you are looking for something that flatters your new post-pregnancy shape, there are so many reasons for wanting to fall back in love with your wardrobe, your sense of self, and confidence and each and every one of them is valid. Life changes, things happen and we are evolving humans but that doesn't mean you can't feel great along the way. TSP was born out of a desire to ensure you reflect the best of where you are now and where you are heading, and cultivate and curate a wardrobe that resonates that message.
I'll sound like a broken record for the amount of times I've said it, but the clothing we put on our backs each day, each morning we dress, has the power to change how we feel, about ourselves in that moment and for the day ahead. ‘Power dressing' didn't get its name for no reason. But it's not all shoulder pads and stilettos, it's about what works for *you*. Because ultimately, comfort and confidence will shine through, no matter what you are wearing. If you feel fantastic, you are in a great place internally to project the best version of you to the world, to put your best foot forward to enjoy and engage in your life and style in the best way. There are so many areas of the subject of Fashion Psychology and too many to delve into in one article, but through the TSP x MoveThru collaboration, I look forward to sharing some insights whether on Loungewear, Power Dressing, Colour Psychology, Shapes and Perspectives, Fabrics and more....
